Chaos at Howe Community Park Wounds Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Officials in Sacramento County are working a gunfire incident that occurred Saturday evening at the Howe Community Park area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.

Before the Gunfire

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue around 6:30 PM after getting calls of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Following that, a follow-up call was made describing a reported physical confrontation breaking out near the park.

A sheriff's airship searched from above but reported no active disturbance. Regardless, it was apparent that hundreds of people had come together at the location without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Law enforcement personnel moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and announcing over their public address systems ordering those gathered to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.

As the crowd was being cleared that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies wasted no time in locating gunshot victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their mid to late twenties — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel confirmed that two had critical injury classifications, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided support and helped triage shooting victims Sacramento County Sheriff shooting investigation at the park.

Crime Scene Evidence

Most of the gunfire was determined to have unfolded adjacent to Cottage Way close to the local Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators found additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were also found in the iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence showed that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown during the incident. Crime scene personnel remained on scene for hours.

Suspects Detained

Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video reviewed at the scene revealed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
